Zer0 Rei

Zer0 Rei, formerly known as Zer0 れい, is the pseudonym of Belgian visual artist and experimental musician Sebastien Dessauvage.

Active since 2018, Zer0 Rei began exploring the post-modern realms between Ambient, New-Age, Dungeon Synth and Elevator Muzak. Their current work spans Drone, Soundscape and Left-Field Electronics through to Breakbeat, IDM and Deconstructed Club, with releases on labels like Hiraeth, Needlejuice and My Pet Flamingo.

Rooted in the third wave of Vaporwave, their online presence melds DIY punk entrepreneurship with the latest digital microgenres and aesthetic fixations. Offline, they play somewhere between 10 and 20 hardware-based live sets a year, mostly around Belgium but also elsewhere in Europe, the UK and the US.

In the visual arts, Zer0 Rei is a prominent modern user of the computer graphics software Bryce, merging its distinctive raytraced rendering with Vaporwave aesthetics and classic Science Fiction to create liminal, surreal vignettes.

Closer to home, they spent over a decade running punk venue The Pit’s, and now help run BLUT! Art Gallery in Kortrijk, set up shows as GRNDLGGRS and organise Slushwave festival, bringing the experimental side of the online scene into physical spaces. A new full length is in the works for 2027.
